How Does Invisalign^® Treatment Work?

Invisalign moves your teeth into place using a progressive series of clear aligners – each aligner is shaped slightly different to move the teeth slowly, gently and comfortably toward their final, straight position.

Once you’ve completed your Invisalign consultation, our orthodentist will take an impression of your teeth and send it to a dental lab. Using the information shared by the dentist, the lab will produce the necessary number of progressive Invisalign aligners (retainers) using the latest advances in 3D computer technology and manufacturing methods. How many aligners you need and how long you’ll have to wear them depends on the complexity of your case and how much your teeth need to move to achieve the perfect alignment.

Invisalign clients typically switch to a new aligner every other week, following a routine set by your Invisalign dentist. Because there are no wires that need to be tightened, you’ll only need to return to our dental office in Springfield for check-ups and to pick up more aligners about every six weeks.

For the best results, we recommend you wear your Invisalign aligners 20-to-22 hours each day. They should only be removed when you eat, drink, brush or floss. Smokers should also remove their aligners before lighting up.

Invisalign Teen is nearly identical to Invisalign in how the system is made and how it works, but includes a few key differences. One difference is that Invisalign Teen aligners include a small, color-changing element. That element allows our Invisalign dentist to tell at a glance whether the teenager has been wearing the aligners for the recommend amount of time.

The other difference between Invisalign and Invisalign Teen is that more replacement aligners are typically provided with Invisalign Teen in case a set gets broken or lost.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Only your Invisalign-trained dentist can provide you with the cost for using this system. It is based on your individual needs. In general, however, the cost is consistent with that of traditional braces.

Factors that may influence the cost include your treatment goals, the length of treatment, the number of aligners you need, and the complexity of the case.

Insurance coverage for Invisalign varies from one policy to another, so we suggest you review your policy or call your insurance carrier to see if it’s covered. Typically, if a policy covers orthodontics, it will also cover Invisalign.
